The Amphitheatre
Used for wild beast and gladiatorial contests, the Altar of Hieron II and the old stone quarries which were also used as prisons
but have since been turned into gardens, covered with rich vegetation which makes them very attractive and picturesque.
Ear of Dionysus
Guests will be visiting this incredible s-shaped cave hewn from the rock, contracting towards the top and causing sound to be considerably amplified.
It has born the name of Ear of Dionysus since the 16th century, reflecting the belief that the tyrant Dionysus was able to overhear even whispered
remarks of prisoners in the quarry. Hence proceed to the remarkable Greek theatre.
Greek theatre
Located west of the paradise quarry, with its 151-yard diameter, it is the largest theatre in the Greek world.
Its semicircular auditorium was hewn from the rock and its hillside location is stunning.
Old town
Following the visit of the archaeological site guests will return to the old town area, crossing the "ortygia bridge",
where they will enjoy some free time at leisure, enjoying a stroll through the narrow winding streets past old palaces and houses.
On completion of the tour guests will re-board their coaches to be driven back to the landing pier.
