Ignazia
Set on the flat area of the rocky coast, at the foot of the so known "murge", it is a very important archaeological site of Fasano.
The area has been inhabited ever since the bronze ages, and begun developing at the end of the V century a.c.,
becoming a maritime town of strategic importance, thanks to its location in-between the Peucezi and Messapi territories.
Its prosperity is testified by the vast production of painted ceramics, named "Gnathia", which was the town's name during the V century A.C.
The old town
The acropolis is made of two important parts, on the terraced side admire a temple of the IV century A . C., and the remains of the imperial town.
On the north side is the harbour, where many features of the old maritime station have been very well kept.
Guests will be visiting Il sacello delle divinita' orientali, on which a famous Latin inscription and sculptured decorations are found,
the "amphitheatre" and the "forum", hence the museum, where numerous architectural fragments and mosaics are kept.
Admire the famous Mosaico delle tre Grazie, which dates back to the II and III century D.C.
Guests will also be visiting the most ancient tombs of the occidental necropolis, located in an area used as stone quarry.
On completion of the tour, guests will re-board their coaches to be driven back to the port of Bari, accompanied by their guide.
